How do you react when we see a snake? What about a spider, bat, or wolf? Join us as we peek behind the curtains of the myths and legends that tell us certain animals are spooky, use art to "de-scare" some creepy crawlies, and meet with a (very friendly) snake in person!

Starved Rock Hiking Trip – 8/15/26

We’re spending our springtime days with adventure on the brain! Join us for a trip to Starved Rock State Park for a day of hiking and picnicking.
Transportation provided. Meet at Fox Center. 

 

Hikers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult.

Fire Painting & Brazing August 7-28

In this class, we will be flame painting on copper to create rainbow patina designs. We will then seal the finish with UV resin to keep it permanent. Also, we will learn how to make braised copper twisted wire bangles, rings, and more.

Cooking Around The World Week 2 Morning Session Aug 10-14

We are thrilled to introduce Chef Carolyn Engelmann as our new chef for cooking classes at Cheney Mansion.  Carolyn is a veteran Chicago cooking instructor.  Carolyn brings a deep knowledge of world and regional cuisines combined with a passion for preparing and enjoying handcrafted food.

Join Carolyn for a variety of uniquely themed hands-on cooking classes with recipes and techniques from around the world.  Explore different regions each day and discover a broad range of flavors.  These classes perfectly blend world history, anthropology, science, and mathematics while teaching essential life skills.  Share the fun of food with your fellow chefs.
