Gold Medal Award

We are thrilled and honored to announce that the Park District of Oak Park has been awarded the 2025 Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA).

The Gold Medal Award is the most prestigious award in the industry, and designates the Park District of Oak Park as one of the nation’s leading agencies. This distinction recognizes park and recreation excellence in long-range planning, resource management, volunteerism, environmental stewardship, program development, professional development, and agency recognition.

The Park District average score  was down 3% from 2018.

What is causing the data trend?
The lowest scores were in “forms, technology, and processes” and “proactive and innovative.”

What actions have we taken?
To encourage comments to identify opportunities for improvement, we added a mandatory comment question if a score is under 5 in any area.

What outcome are we trying to achieve?
To strive for operational excellence to encourage organizational excellence.
