Soak up the Sun – 8/1/26

Did you know that reptiles don't sweat? But then, how do they keep themselves cool on these hot summer days? Join us as we explore the world of ectotherms, do some summer science, and even meet a real snake friend!

Forest Bathing – 8/1/26

Forest Bathing (also known as Shinrin-Yoku) is not a hike, fitness walk, or naturalist-led program – instead, it is a unique opportunity to slow down, awaken your senses, and connect with the natural world in nourishing and meaningful ways. Through a series of gentle invitations by an ANFT Certified guide, you’ll have the chance to deepen your relationship with the land and its inhabitants, as well as share in that experience with others.

In addition to feeling more grounded, calm, and peaceful, when practiced regularly, Forest Bathing has been shown to support overall well-being, including reduced stress, lower blood pressure, improved sleep, enhanced creativity and focus, and even a decrease in anxiety and depression.  Many people also find that they begin to experience familiar parks and forests in new, surprising, and deeply personal ways.

Kayaking for Adults

**Please Note! Due to some conflicts with the Forest Preserves schedule, the date for this program has changed. It is no longer on August 1st, and will now take place on July 25th.**

Get on the water with us! We'll be heading to Herrick Lake in the Forest Preserves of DuPage County to learn how to kayak with their rangers. No experience necessary!

The Park District recommends: Please pack your snack, lunch and water bottle, and dress appropriately for the water. We will be going onto a lake – while lifejackets are provided, knowing how to swim is important for your own safety.
